April 17-22, 2016 EGU 2016: “Mapping, Monitoring & Modelling of Vegetation Characteristics using Earth Observation”. 2016-04-17, Vienna, Austria.
Remote sensing, be it in the form of satellite imagery or aerial photography from manned aircrafts or UAVs, has proven its potential as a unique tool for retrieving vegetation properties at the local, the regional and global scales. Over the last decades, a substantial amount of work has been allocated to the retrieval of vegetation characteristics, e.g. mapping of the extent of vegetation cover, monitoring of vegetation condition using the NDVI or other indices, monitoring forest cover trends, monitoring the expansion of bushes in the expense of palatable grasses in the drylands, woody structure modelling and mapping using Synthetic Aperture Radar data, extracting structural vegetation components from LiDAR for biomass estimation, combining hyperspectral and LiDAR data for upscaling vegetation structural information, to mention but a few. Numerous satellite missions are currently being used to quantify such characteristics in a wide range of temporal and spatial resolutions; new missions with improved capacities are constantly becoming available or planned for the near future in an ever-increasing rate. However, the use of remote sensing for mapping, monitoring or modelling vegetation characteristics is clearly not problem-free: quite the contrary. Within this context, we welcome studies that present novel approaches of mapping, monitoring and modelling vegetation characteristics. We endeavour this session to provide the platform for the analysis of the benefits as well as the pitfalls of using aerial photography, UAVs, LiDAR, Radar, hyperspectral or multi-spectral satellite data in this field. Keynote speaker: Compton J. Tucker (NASA) Contact: Dr Elias Symeonakis (Manchester Metropolitan University, e.symeonakis@mmu.ac.uk)"

May 26-27, 2011: FP7 Space and GMES Initial Operations (GIO) Symposium: opportunities and networking 2011-2013. 2011-05-21, Lisbon, Portugal.
Organised by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) Portugal, Centro de Desarollo Tecnológico Industrial (CDTI) Spain, and COSMOS FP7 Space Network
The FP7 Space and GIO Symposium takes place in the middle of the FP7 (2007-2013), in the early stages of GMES Initial Operations (2011-2013) and within the active life span of GMES Space Component. Given this context, the main goals of the symposium are:1. To contribute to the on-going debate on the programmatic content of the last two Work Programmes, for both FP7 SPACE and GIO;2. To broadcast the coming opportunities in the space field, namely within FP7 Space, GIO and ESA programmes (e.g. GMES Space Component, Value Added Element);3. To picture the state of the art of the FP7 space GMES services on Land, Emergency, Marine, Atmosphere and Security;4. To highlight the benefits of GMES services and products for the user community and promote its involvement in the GMES programme paving the road to a future participation in the GMES User forum;5. To raise awareness for SME participation in space;6. To bridge EU players with non-EU Spacefaring Nations;7. To foster networking among industrial, academic and research partners for space, as a contribution to consortia assembly.

April 11-13, 2011: Joint Urban Remote Sensing Event JURSE 2011. 2011-04-11, Munich, Germany.
Organised by Technische Universität München, Germany
JURSE 2011 intends to be a unique forum for urban remote sensing with respect to the Information Technology and Geoscience community. A continuously increasing amount of multiple sensory data offers opportunities to address new questions and solve existing problems more effectively in urban remote sensing. To exploit the full potential these diverse data sources offer, several questions needs to be investigated, for example how to select the best data sets for different applications and how to implement and exploit the algorithms and procedures developed for single sensor data processing. Another important question is how to combine the information derived from these different sensors, for example on which level should the individually processed data been fused.
