    The Workshop

The event continued the 1st Workshop on Remote Sensing of the Coastal Zone which had been held in Ghent, Belgium, in June 2003, and the tradition of the thematic workshops on Lidar Remote Sensing of Land and Sea (1991-2000) and Remote Sensing and GIS for Coastal Zone Management (1994). It focused on Coastal Zones and covered all methods of remote sensing suitable for this complex environment, with emphasis on methods, technology and applications.

      Topics:

        • physical dynamics of currents, tides, waves and sediment transport
        • morphodynamical processes and their relevance for coastal engineering
        • habitat mapping and modelling
        • flux and transformation of seawater constituents including pollutants
        • interaction of physical, biological and chemical conditions and processes
        • GIS and Coastal Zone Management

and their investigation with Remote Sensing:
        • active and passive methods in all spectral ranges, sensor combinations
        • satellite, airborne and ground-based methods including ground truth
        • modelling of radiative transfer, image processing and related aspects.
        • interaction of physical, biological and chemical conditions and processes

The working language at the Workshop is English.
